SCAG now offers professional, free training to local government staff and others in the Compass Blueprint Suite of Services. Toolbox Tuesdays provides a range of practical skills and knowledge for local planners including training in the use of computer-based tools and education in practical approaches to timely planning issues. All classes are FREE for staff of SCAG-member local governments and other SCAG partners in Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties.

Tools to Build Better Corridors
Join experts convened by The Planning Center to explore the anatomy of a corridor, walk through the corridor planning process, and learn the basics of how to evaluate corridors in your community. Walk through simple analysis and gain the answers you need to provide direction to decision makers, employees, the public, and the private market on issues such as baseline conditions, retail supply and demand, and relative capacity. Wraps up with a presentation of great corridor examples from around Southern California.

Envision Tomorrow Suite: Return-On-Investment Analysis Tool
Learn to use this Excel application to analyze potential development scenarios by projecting developers’ profit based on the full range of building, site, market and regulatory parameters; and test whether alternative zoning and regulatory policies are likely to stimulate or prevent private-sector investment. The ROI tool has new features for 2010 including sustainability and local government finance indicators. Attendees will receive a free copy of the ROI tool software. Attendance is limited to 16 so register early.

APA Audio/Web Training: Ethics in Planning
Hear APA panelists discuss issues surrounding ethical behavior in planning practice. Panelists discuss ethics scenarios encountered on the job. Find out why it’s important to discuss these issues and why an ethics code should be part of an ongoing discussion with other planners. Attendees will be eligible to receive 1.5 AICP certification & maintenance credits.
